Caribe My Colombian Roots presents the eco-friendly Caña Flecha collection made out of Gynerium Sagittatum, a type of cane that grows in the Sinu river at the northern Caribbean region of Colombia and handcrafted by Zenu indigenous. It takes from 12 to 20 days to make one handbag from scratch. It is a lengthy process where the indigenous artisans first have to de-vein the leaves, dried in the sun until they turn from green to beige or white color, soaked in black mud,vegetables,fruit or color wild plants from 3 to 5 days until dyed, washed, boiled and dried in the sun again and the coloring process is repeated until palm strips have reached a uniform color. After the desired colors are obtained the strips are hand weaved into braids that are used to made handbags,hats,belts,shoes,bracelets among others.Since each item is unique, individually crafted by hand makes each piece one of a kind.
